Bike Rides and a New Tire, Nantucket 2024
Today Philomena and John went shopping at Stop & Shop. They rode their bikes all the way there and back with a little wagon to hold the groceries. Later on, our new tire arrived for the car on the ferry, and Philomena went downtown to pick it up and get it to our neighbor Andy, who dropped it off. After that, the body shop picked up the car and repaired the tire. We are back on the road!

A Day of Ups and Downs, Nantucket 2024
Today Frankie felt sick, and while Mom took him to urgent care, Philomena, John, and I planned to go to the Downyflake Restaurant for breakfast and one of their old-fashioned donuts. On the way there, though, my wheelchair toppled off the curb. Luckily, it was right in front of the hospital, so the doctors and nurses took me in, checked me out, and made sure I was okay.
In the meantime, Mom drove the kids home so Frankie could rest because he was diagnosed with strep throat. On the way, she got a flat tire, but my wheelchair was in the car, so Philomena rode her bike to the hospital to be with me. John drove the wheelchair to the hospital, and Mom rode John’s bike alongside him. Then Philomena and John rode home so Frankie wouldn’t be alone. The nurses at the hospital found a taxi driver who could accommodate my wheelchair and gave me a ride home. Mom walked home because the weather was so nice.
After that, we had quiet time at home before bed and watched the end of the movie Big Daddy.

Today we slept in. John set up our new hose reel and connected the hose. Our new washing machine arrived, and Frankie and Mom did the first load of laundry. John and Philomena rode their bikes to the landfill to dispose of our garbage. After that, all the kids rode their bikes into town to the bike shop. Frankie got the biking gloves he wanted, and Philomena got the basket she wanted for her bike. John, Frankie, and I had fun flying the drone. After shower time, we played a family game of bingo. I won once, and John won once. We finished off the day by finishing Major League II.

Drone Flying and Beach Day, Nantucket 2024
Today, Frankie and I flew the drone around. Kali, our dog, got loose, but we found her after about 15 minutes. Mom took Philomena, John, and Frank to the beach. After they got home, Mom fixed the outdoor faucet, and we hooked up the outdoor shower—Frankie got a little wet. The boys played wiffle ball in the front yard and rode their bikes to Bartlett’s Farm twice. Then we watched a movie called Major League II before bed.

Today we saw Newsies Jr. at the Dreamland Theater. Newsies Jr. is a youth adaptation of the Broadway musical, telling the story of young newspaper sellers in New York City who strike against unfair working conditions. Then we had lunch at the Brotherhood of Thieves restaurant. We went home afterward and had a lazy afternoon. The boys played cards and worked on Frankie’s puzzle with Mom. We watched the Yankees play a doubleheader and had pizza for dinner.

Cousins Return and Beach Fun, Nantucket 2024
Today it was an overcast day. We started by going into town to the library. Philomena, John, and Frankie rode their bikes there using the shortcut through the woods. We got a surprise finding out that our cousins had returned to the island, so we made plans to get together. The kids rode their bikes to meet their cousins Avery and Colby at Paul’s house and then rode together to our house. They played together with slime, worked on Frankie’s puzzle, and even played croquet! After having some lunch, Avery and Colby’s mom and dad, Dan and Jenn, took Philomena, John, and Frankie to a beach called Nobadeer that has big waves. Dan taught them to boogie board, and Philomena and Avery dove right into the waves. Afterward, we said goodbye and showered off the sand, had dinner, and watched Back to the Future Part III before bed.

Dump Treasures and Family Time, Nantucket 2024
This morning was rainy, but after the rain stopped, we went to the dump and looked at the “Take It or Leave It” they have there. Frankie found a puzzle, and John and Philomena found things they liked too. After that, we went grocery shopping and came home to have a yummy lunch. We watched Back to the Future and Back to the Future Part II again and caught the Yankees game, which was the first of a doubleheader. The Yankees won 5 to 2. Mom even mowed the lawn and cut a path back to the trail behind the house that gets us into town more directly on our bikes. Then she, Frankie, John and Philomena walked the trail to refresh their memories on how to get down it. Frankie has started his puzzle, and he’s doing great at it.

Rainy Day Games and Movies, Nantucket 2024
It was a rainy day today, so we stayed home. Mom read her book, Philomena rested her sore ankle, and the boys played board games like Snakes and Ladders, Chess, and Monopoly. John started teaching Frankie how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Dad and the boys watched Game 4 of the 1996 World Series, where the Yankees played against the Atlanta Braves. The boys played board games, and Frankie won twice at Chess.

Tony Sarg Community Day Fun, Nantucket 2024
Today we went into town and attended the Nantucket Historical Association’s Tony Sarg Community Day. Johnny finally got to see the puppet show. The boys got their faces painted, did some crafts, and saw the huge inflatable of Tony Sarg’s Nantucket Sea Monster. Tony Sarg was a famous puppeteer and illustrator, known for creating the first giant balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Nantucket Sea Monster was part of a 1937 publicity stunt where a fabricated sea creature was washed ashore, captivating locals and promoting tourism.
I got a new hat to keep the sun off me a little better, and Philomena got a visor. We left for a little while in the middle of the day, but I started to feel a little unwell and needed to get indoors at Town Hall to cool off. Frankie, Johnny, and Philomena were very helpful taking care of me. When I felt better, the kids got some lunch and ice cream. We went back over to Children’s Beach at 2:30 to listen to the final concert. Mom picked us up around 3:00, and we came home to relax with a little TV and dinner, and also played Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly before bedtime.
