Frankie Gianutsos’s Two-RBI Burst Keeps Giants in It Early in 11–3 Loss

The NS Giants Mejia 9U squad battled through a tense, back-and-forth start but saw the game slip away in the late innings, falling 11–3 to the Sayville Flashes Purple.

Sayville struck first, jumping out to a 2–0 lead in the top of the 1st after an RBI double by R.G. and a run-scoring single from C.C. The Giants answered with pressure of their own in the 2nd when M. Chindamo ripped a double but was retired at third to end the threat. Sayville’s starter, K.K., dominated the early slate, fanning five through three innings and keeping the Giants off the scoreboard.

The Giants’ persistence paid off in the 4th when Frankie Gianutsos delivered a two-run single that tied the game at 2–2—an assertive, timely piece of hitting that brought teammates home and energized the dugout. Sayville quickly countered in the bottom half, as J.K. drove a two-run double to reestablish a 4–2 lead.

In the top of the 5th the Giants chipped away on a fielder’s choice to pull within one, but the bottom of that inning unraveled. Sayville sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on a combination of walks, defensive miscues, catcher’s interference, and timely hits—including RBI singles from J.T., L.F., and J.K. again. The Giants’ bullpen struggled with command, issuing multiple walks and hitting two batters during the frame.

Mount Sinai battled back in the 6th with a pair of singles but couldn’t overcome the margin. L.F. took the mound to close for Sayville, fanning two in the final frame to seal the victory.

Final Score: Sayville 11, NS Giants 3
Early defense and a clutch two-RBI hit from Frankie Gianutsos kept the Giants competitive through the middle innings, but late-inning pitching and a string of miscues allowed Sayville to pull away. The team will look to tighten its command and build on the hard work shown throughout this game as they prepare for the next matchup.
