Adenoidectomy and Ear Tubes
Philomena had her first surgery this morning. Mommy accompanied her, (they only allow one parent in) into the operating room at 7:05 am and the procedure started at 8:00 am. By 8:40 am, Dr. Goldstein came out and told us that everything had gone well. It was a rough day for all of us, but we seem to have gotten through it. Philomena is still groggy but seems to be her usual self underneath. She woke up pretty rough from the anesthesia, and it was incredibly difficult to see her so inconsolable, but Mommy, as usual, was able to make us both feel better.
The nurses are probably talking about us. Daddy probably used as many tissues for himself as he did for Philomena! Philomena has cousins that have been through SO much more complicated and risky procedures, and we have absolutely no idea how her Aunts and Uncles ever got through it and never want to find out.
We are just both so thankful and relieved to have our little girl back home, safe and sound.

Bilirubin Redux
Philomena saw the pediatrician again this morning to have another check on her bilirubin levels, which remained steady at 16. She is past what is considered the peak time for it, though, so we have a follow up appointment in 2 days. Updates then.

Follow Up On Bilirubin
Philly had to return to the pediatrician this morning to get another bilirubin test. The number remained constant at 16, but since she is a whole day older, (it doesn’t seem like much, but it’s 20% of her current life span…. 😉 she is doing ok, but still needs to be watched.
Another trip to the pediatrician tomorrow. Thanks, Granny Franny for driving Kristi and Philly this morning. I know you enjoyed the traffic!

First Appointment With Pediatrician
We took Philly to the pediatrician, who did a bilirubin test to check for jaundice, today. This is apparently standard procedure for newborns discharged less than 4 days after birth. Philomena’s levels are at 16, so we have to watch them closely and switch her over to formula so that she can get hydrated and pass the bilirubin from her system. This apparently happens because the liver function is the last thing to develop, and since she was 3.5 weeks early, it’s not quite ready to handle it solo yet.

Another Sonogram
We just got back from the hospital. We had another sonogram. This time it was a BPP. It was meant to check the health of the baby in light of all of the recent issues we have been having.
We found out that Philomena is now 5 lbs. 9 oz. A good size for a growing baby! Also, the amniotic fluid continues to be in plentiful supply. As a matter of fact the measurement has increased each time it has been taken the last three days.
Apparently, everything is fine. Still no definitive explanation of the leaking. The outlook right now is to watch everything and see what happens. If the pattern persists as it has been it will be business as usual. If there are changes then we will have to investigate further. But as of now there is plenty of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby and she is doing well.
We have an appointment with the OB tomorrow which was regularly scheduled. Any news we get I will post.
Hopefully we can both get some sleep tonight.

Just Got Back From The Hospital
So, we went into the labor and delivery at the hospital on recommendation of the doctor. Kristi has been seeing a little bit of leakage. It could be amniotic fluid. The tests were negative tonight, but they seem to be thinking that there is a good chance that she has a “high leak.”
It appears that Kristi is dilated 1 cm and is 80% effaced.
The doctor does not think that she will go the full 40 weeks. Whenever Philomena is ready to join us, we are ready.
We’ll keep you up-to-date. Check here for updates.

Total Vanity
OK. So out of vanity, we went and had a few sonograms done at this place out in Port Jeff that does sonograms for a fee. It was partly inspired by the total lack of pictures from the prior appointment. Anyway, check out the 16 pictures we got, including a 3D one. The 3D is a little creepy, but interesting in that you can start to make out resemblances.

Check Up
Kristi had an appointment with the “who-ha” doctor today and everything checked out. The results from the scan the other day came in good. We heard Philly’s heartbeat also. She’s a rascal, though. Every time the doc zeroed in on the heartbeat, she seemed to dart off to another region of the belly. She’s toying with us already….

Final Sonogram
We were at North Shore LIJ again today for a scheduled sonogram and comprehensive checkup. There were about 80 pictures taken during the scan of which we received 4. Quite a let down. While the results of the checkup were good, it was a real let down to get only the pictures below out of it.
Anyhow, enjoy.
Oh…. by the way… IT’S A GIRL! Philomena Aurelia Gianutsos is expected on 11/20/2011.

Ultra Scan Results
We saw the doctor again on Tuesday and were happy to learn that all signs are good and all tests came back normal or better.
